August Book Reviews

I’m back this month with my August book review and ratings. I had a goal of 20 books I read 18 being able to sneak in a few that aren’t pictured.

These are my personal opinions about the books. I never want to be overly critical of the artistic work of the authors. I have linked all books if you are interested in adding them to your library at home. Now let’s get into my reviews.

Demon’s Dream: The 758 pages may feel intimidating, oh but this book was a great way to start the month. While I found it was easy to dislike Demon (a nickname) I found myself beginning to like him. In a very interesting way Dream finds her life merged with Demon’s is love in their future or is Dream simply always being the fixer of her family. I was hooked reading this one, 10/10.

Moth to a Flame, My first read by Ashley Antoinette, gotta say it was worth it! Raven worked every piece of my nerves yet her story was so captivating Her life was a series of her upbringing and her choices no matter how upset I was about them. Will she be able to overcome her bad choices or will she be the product of them? 9/10

All Her Little Secrets: Changing up the pace and genre of your reading is always good. This book was a mix of thriller, suspense & mystery. Great read left me with a lot of questions like…..”Now why would you do that?” This book was a Girl Be You Book Club book read. I can’t wait to discuss with the girls about this one. 7/10

Ethic 1 & Ethic 2: Stressed me OUT!!!!! This book is the follow up 6 book series to Moth to a Flame. The storyline carries over following Ethic and his family along with his choices. Ethic pulled on my heart strings of his love, his commitment to himself and those he loves it was sometimes painful to read. Great reads none the less…I definitely have the rest of the series on. my list of books to read. These two books both 9/10.

Giving Good Love to a Bad Boy 1 & Giving Good Love to a Bad Boy 2 are the must read book before heading over to Taming a Menace. I almost read them out of order glad I didn’t thanks to my book cousins. Reading them in order helped me understand the family dynamic. These two books was the most unassuming love story that I have read and it was worth it. Giving Love to a Bad Boy 1&2 is a story of such vulnerability in love, choosing your own journey in life while following your heart. 9/10

Taming a Menace, Life has a way of bringing you to the person that is meant for you, the question becomes will you choose comfort or love. This book had me wrapped up because the ending I wanted is just what happened, love is worth speaking up for. A love story of a therapist & private chef having their paths to cross t find each other again..so good! 9/10

Something in my Heart. This is my second read by this author, Kimberly Brown. I love the way she writes her characters in the story. You can always find a way to connect with the characters. A story of a true friendship in the midst of life’s hardships while finding and falling in what seems to be a forbidden love by the standards of others. 8/10

Marriage Favor & Wait for U is apart of the Crenshaw Kings 8-book series, currently I am on the third book. Shavon Latrice got me wrapped up in every single book I read. Marriage Favor was such a complex story full of lies, twists, turns and a true love story of a mother with six sons trying to navigate a terrible hand that life gave. It is a story of love, uncertainty and second chances. 10/10

Wait for U is the second book in the Crenshaw series. This book follows the life of Khari who we are introduced to in the first book. He is so hard headed, dead set on doing things his way which leads to a world of trouble. This book we find Khari attempting to settle his life and proving his love for his first love. Will she believe him? Will they finally find love? Loved this one for sure. 10/10.

All three of these books, Heat of the Moment (8/10), Fate or Future(8/10), Here with you Forever (8/10). This is a 4 part book series of individuals are connected through friendships and some knowing of each other. Yet their love stories are completely different. There three books were great easy reads that was filled with great character storylines.

Don’t Play Bout Me, this read came as a recommendation from my book cousins. I needed a good palette cleanse from all the reading. Gotta say of all the books I read this one was THEE most stressful. A story of being rescued from a bad situation making vows to each other in the most uncanny type of way to accepting real love is the ride the book takes you on. Definitely a great read will most certainly stress you out. 9/10

Plus Size Player, I have honestly tried to give this author a chance after reading her last book Curvy Girl Summer. I simply could not do it and this was a struggle for me, and this book was a DNF, (Did Not Finish) Every storyline, every author shares their art differently that doesn’t mean it is for everyone. My book cousins and a few other people I know loved both her books, it just wasn’t a good for me.

Not Pictured: Love Letters From a Gangsta, this is the third book in the Crenshaw Kings book series. Gotta tell you my eyes have been glued to my kindle following the story of the brother Lequay and woman Scotland their paths cross in the most assuming way will they fall in love of will life’s twists and turns cause them go their separate ways. When I tell you I loved this one I loved it…whew! Nothing wrong with love and a whole lot of gun action in my opinion. 10/10

Not Pictured: Silent Patient, I have been hearing about this book so much. After going to a book event I decided to grab this one during the book swap. I must say it is a a slow burn of a psychological thriller of a woman whose story is told for her until a psychotherapist comes along who is committed to tell her story while coming face to face with his own demons. I’m almost done gotta say it’s a 9/10 so far.
