ARC Book Review
As a woman who grew up watching reruns of The Jeffersons and 227, this book was incredibly nostalgic to read. Memoirs offer us a glimpse into the lives of those we held in high regard at various points in our lives.
Reading Marla Gibbs’s amazing, inspiring, and beautiful memoir, It’s Never Too Late, was a rollercoaster of emotions. Her story was not perfect; it was messy, heartbreaking, and filled with moments of joy, resilience, celebration, and the pursuit of her dreams.
Ms. Marla Gibbs is truly a legend and icon. Reading her family history brought tears to my eyes, but by the end, I realized that our lives are shaped by our experiences. Ms. Marla shared her story with grace, accountability, and an overwhelming sense of love. She loved her life, her family, her children, and the purpose she was meant to fulfill.
Ms. Marla was a fighter, a voice for others, and a master of change. I admired her ability to stand up for herself and others, to learn from past experiences, and to embrace life’s challenges. What I loved most was her unwavering belief in the power of others to have better lives and opportunities.
Ms. Marla’s strong faith was a guiding force in her life. She leaned into her beliefs and found strength in them. Beyond her role as a mother, she was a friend, an incredible actress, and a remarkable woman. I was inspired by her support for emerging artists and the beautiful, honest, and loving relationship she shared with her daughter. Seeing how she loved her sons and grandson made me miss my own grandmother.
After reading this book, I felt a profound sense of fulfillment and inspiration. I was motivated to pursue my passions and continue looking out for others. I was reminded that life’s circumstances may not always be easy, but they don’t define us. Instead, we can embrace them and create our own paths. I have always admired Ms. Marla Gibbs, and after reading this book, I love and respect her even more.
I will definitely add this beautiful memoir to my home library.
