Hey Daddy!
My dad and I were having breakfast at a conference, someone walks by mentions how they just love our relationship. As they walk away me and my daddy crack up laughing. If people only knew how far we truly have come. This breakfast moment is nothing short of a miracle!
I Ain’t Code Switching No Mo’
I learned early on that code switching was going to be the path of success for me. My sophomore year in high school days was the start of my code switching. Often, I was the only black girl in classes, track meets, hanging out with white friends, my family was the only black family on our block up until about a few months ago. During those days there was no diversity and inclusion classes, there were no guided conversation around my white classmates being allies.
Throw Your List Away!
I remember it like it was yesterday 13 years ago, my 25th year birthday party. My friends and family showed up it was a great time. So many memories made with laughs, gifts, cards and taking so many pictures. During the party my mom says one line to me that has stayed with me all these years later.
“Jee, Happy Birthday enjoy this time life is going to go fly by now.”
Tommy Ain’t Got No Job!
If you are a Martin fan like I am you know that Tommy was accused and proven on several instances of never did have a job. Be it Martin, Gina, Pam or Cole they were exhausted when Tommy would make a reference to his job. With much attitude and frustration the next comment would be, “Tommy, You ain’t Got no job!
Here I am in May 2021 saying those words to myself, “Tommy You ain’t got no job!”
Unlike Tommy I really was employed with a pretty nice job. The words you never want to hear is, “I’m really sorry, we are going to have to let you go.”
